At this Business for Breakfast event, Meredith will discuss the challenges facing Colorado’s primary retirement program for public employees in Colorado.
Meredith Williams is the Executive Director of the Public Employees Retirement of Association of Colorado (Colorado PERA).
In that capacity he serves as the chief executive officer of the $39 billion Association, reporting
to a 16–member Board of Trustees. The Association serves as the pension fund for 474,000 current and
retired Colorado public servants.
Meredith started his professional career as a junior accountant with the Kansas Legislative
Division of Post Audit, the audit arm of Kansas government. He served as Kansas’ Legislative Post Auditor
from 1983 until his 1991 appointment as Executive Secretary of the Kansas Public Employees Retirement
System. He was appointed to his current position at Colorado PERA in March of 2000.
Meredith is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in business administration
and economics. He received his law degree in 1975 from Washburn University School of Law, Topeka.
Meredith is an active member of several professional organizations. Meredith is currently on
the Editorial Board for the Journal of Government Financial Management and has served as the national
president of the Association of Government Accountants. Meredith is the past chair of the Council of
Institutional Investors. He is the past president of the National Council on Teacher Retirement.
Meredith has published and lectured widely on the subject of public sector accountability and oversight.
He co–authored the John Wiley & Sons text, Auditing Performance in Government. He has also served as an
adjunct professor on the faculty of the University of Kansas. Meredith is currently serving on the
Governmental Accounting Standards Board’s Post Employment Benefits Task Force and the Public Company
Accounting Oversight Board’s Investor Advisory Group.
