Meet Shauna Hoekstra. Shauna is an HR Business Partner (HRBP) at Vectra Bank. As an HRBP, her days are filled with supporting leaders and employees on matters related to their success.  Whether it be about skill development or performance management, Shauna provides coaching and resources that enable high performance.  She partners with the learning & development and recruiting teams connecting people with tools & opportunities.  And of course, she is well versed in compensation, benefits, employee relations and building partnerships internally and externally.  

 

Shauna graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a degree in psychology.  Having been influenced by her father’s banking career, she launched her career as branch service manager after graduation. Shauna then came to Vectra as a private banking specialist in 2009. From 2012 on, she has been a part of the HR team, initially as a designer and talent management consultant and progressed most recently to an HRBP in 2022.  Her team is grateful for her experience, from her degree to working in the branch and with private customers, to understanding how employees learn and what helps them thrive, Shauna brings a lot of talents to the company.

 

Along with her day-to-day responsibilities, Shauna has also helped structure the enterprise recognition program, as well as being a significant contributor to the MyCareer initiative. She serves on Enterprise Employee Experience Committee, focused on initiatives that make our company great place to work, including engagement, recognition, and wellness.

 

Below is a quick questions and answer sessions held with Shauna. 

 

How long have you been at Vectra Bank and how long in the banking industry?

I have been with Vectra Bank for 14 years. I’ve worked in banking since 2006 and in HR since 2012.

What do you love about working at Vectra?

The fact that I’ve always been welcomed to the table when I wanted to be involved with something. Vectra has so many initiatives and committees that employees can get involved with, and I appreciate that I feel welcomed to participate in things that interests me outside of my normal job duties.

What is a great personal accomplishment?

I’m very proud to show my two daughters how capable women are, and that you can be a good mom and have a successful career. They see me busy working hard and volunteering in the community but also showing up for them as best I can.

What sets you apart from others?

My ability to drill down to the core of people and focus on what makes each situation unique and see the best way to deal with it. The great relationships I’ve built over the years also help me to do this tough job more successfully.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I love spending time with my family, we do a lot together. We like to spend time outside. One of my daughters rides horses, and I love spending weekends at the barn with her, my other daughter, and my husband.

I also find a lot of value in the Board I serve on, which helps benefit children in underserved communities. We help them to succeed in the school system and receive a good education early, while raising funds to help schools run more efficiently.

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

I do appreciate the opportunity to help my girls off to school some mornings. To be able help kick start their days as a mom and then be a professional role model for them means a lot to me. On those days, I would love to have powers that let me leave the house at 8:30 and arrive at work at 8!
